Alumni
activities are regulated and managed by the Alumni Association (IKA). Every
year a regular meeting is held to establish the management of the IKA. After
the IKA management is formed, a program is designed that will be run by alumni.
In general, the IKA alumni program is divided into routine programs and
incidental programs. Routine programs include taking an active role in
curriculum revitalization, alumni discussion forums to discuss actual issues in
the field of special education, and social service programs. In revitalizing
the curriculum, IKA's role was to provide input related to competencies that
must be mastered by students based on the market field needs. Curriculum
revitalization is carried out at least once a year. In 2021, the revitalization
of the curriculum involved Special Education alumni with various professions
ranging from teachers, school principals, and entrepreneurs from various
provinces in Indonesia such as from East Java, East Nusa Tenggara and South
Kalimantan.
IKA
also recommends several job opportunities as the reference for Special
Education graduates. Further, through IKA's WhatsApp and Telegram groups,
information on the latest job vacancies relevant to the field of Special
Education is shared regularly. Light discussions regarding these job
qualifications took place interactively in these groups.
Scientific
forums can be in the form of discussion sessions or the provision of relevant
material to support the development of Special Education students' competencies,
including becoming a guest lecturer. As example, a webinar was held to
commemorate international disability day with the theme “Monitoring the
Developmental Problems of Children with Special Needs'' which was held on
December 3, 2021, which was initiated and organized by IKA Special Education.
In terms of guest lecturers, in 2021, two Special Education alumni members of
IKA will have the opportunity to teach Inclusive Education courses and
Assistive Technology courses.
Incidental
alumni activities generally focus on social activities. For example, raising
funds for victims of natural disasters. Some of the natural disasters referred
to include flash floods in Batu City, earthquakes in Malang and the eruption of
Mount Semeru in Lumajang. Moreover, fundraising was initiated by IKA in
each of these areas.
