What Is Inclusion By The Smallest Aspect
As the explanation that has been told by Mrs. Fia before, according to the “Inclusive Education for the 21st Century” by Linda J. Graham, inclusive education is anything related to human right and a reform system that erased differences, so all students enable to participate fully in learning experiences alongside their same-age friends, older, or even younger. The reform system change contains making modifications in some contents, teaching methods, approaching techniques, structures, etc. All of the reform system changes are to provide some diverse learning environments and preferences of every student who needs it.
If we take the definition from the smallest aspect, in my opinion, inclusive education can be understood as an approach that all of the tranforms education system can meet all the needs of the student. This system is not only revolves to some aspects, but embedded in every aspects of edcuational system. That system can be start from the smallest thing which is leadership because it’s play a crusial role in creating an environment where inclusive education can develops. Let’s imagine, if the leader itself can’t understand or support inclusive education, then the program and implementation can’t run smoothly. Thus, such a leadership helps embed an inclusive culture that respects and values diversity is important.
The whole person approach is also a crusial thing to support inclusive education. This approach promotes such a flexible curriculum and teaching strategies that is being adapted with newest technology also with the student ability rather than expecting student to fit into the high standards. Inclusive education is also involving family, teacher, and some professional helps (if it’s needed) to provide some necessary supports and resources. This education is not always about disability student, but also about how the education system goes and runs to provide every student’s needs.
In Indonesia itself this education still has some lacks of implementation, some of teachers (especially came from inclusive school) couldn’t really understand what’s the meaning of it because we still have limited access to study. Hence, a study group should be held to help teachers in the future understand about inclusive education even from the smallest thing which is empathy and mindset.
